Winter Lights – The City of Gaithersburg Winter Lights Festival is getting ready to welcome visitors for its 19th spectacular season. The 3.5 mile drive through the enchanted setting of Seneca Creek State Park takes you past more than 365 illuminated displays and 65 animated vignettes that light up the night. Themed areas include Winter Woods, Teddy Bear Land, Victorian Village, the North Pole, and much more. The park is located at 11950 Clopper Road, just a few miles west of the intersection with I-270.The wondrous display of lights at Seneca Creek State Park will be open nightly November 28 through December 31. Watch a Sensory Friendly Film- Rio Cinemas 18 at the Washingtonian Center offers sensory friendly films…the lights are up, the sound turned down and audience members are invited to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing. Families will be able to bring in their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks, and no previews or advertisements will be shown before the movie. Movies are shown at 10 am. Holiday Trains and Planes – During the holiday season College Park Aviation Museum gets ready for the festivities as miniature trains, villages, tunnels, and depots spark the imagination and bring history to life. The National Capital Trackers bring a fascinating and constantly moving display of model railroads to the Museum. Time: 12/13 to 12/20 (10:00 am – 5:00 pm each day) Cost: Free with museum admission. Take a Weekend Walk in the Woods – We invite you to take an hour out of your schedule to enjoy spending time with your family outdoors. Join our Master Naturalists on the first Saturday of each month from 9-10 am for a nature hike around Woodend Sanctuary. Each hike will have a unique and exciting natural history theme. Programs are appropriate for family members of all ages and no registration is necessary. Please come prepared to hike in sneakers and don’t forget your water bottle. Go Ice Skating – Bring the family and friends and come ice skating any time of year at Wheaton Ice Arena in Wheaton, or Cabin John Ice Rink in Rockville. Public skating sessions are held at both rinks throughout the rink, as well as special “Cheapskates” (one low fee for both admission and rental skates!), Family Skates, Adult Skates and special event and holiday skating sessions.
